Did you know that Binghamton had a comedy scene? Neither did I…until a few weeks ago! The First Annual Binghamton Comedy & Arts Festival took place August 16th-18th and featured over 40 stand-up comedians in several different shows taking place across the city. Shout out to Kevin Salisbury, who organized the entire event AND created this awesome website (www.binghamtoncomedy.com) to let everyone know what’s going on and coming up next!
(Click on the website header to visit BinghamtonComedyDOTcom!)
If you were living under a rock, and somehow missed out on the Comedy Festival in August despite all the press — (Fox40, Press & Sun Bulletin, Bingspot) then don’t worry. There are still some upcoming opportunities for you to get involved in this up and coming scene, and I highly suggest that you do because these comedians aren’t going to keep giving shows in Binghamton if people don’t come to them.
So write these down. Tell all of your friends. Clear your schedule. Make a night of it. Share this article on Facebook, Twitter, Reddit, Digg, Tumblr, Blogger, etc. Tweet me if you’ll be there! @hey_stacey_kay
Open Mic Comedy Night at Matty B’s is awesome! There’s a lot of great local talent that performs, but audience members also have the opportunity to “get on stage”. The bartender makes awesome pickleback shots (ladies, you know what I’m talking about!) Best of all, the show is absolutely FREE. If you’ve ever considered doing stand-up but have never tried it before, then this is your night! The next show is Wednesday, September 19th. Write that down. Be there. Come say hi.
The Puzzled Players are a local comedy improv group that perform every last Wednesday at Lost Dog’s new cocktail lounge. This show is also FREE, but get there early because seating is limited. Their next show is Wednesday, September 25th. Check it out. Bring your friends. Buy a beer flight.
Alright, Doug Stanhope is coming to the new sports bar downtown – The Venue – on October 30th. Doors open at 8, and the show starts at 9. Tickets for this one are $25, and you can check out the Facebook event here.
“Doug Stanhope is a stand-up comic. Has been since 1990.His material ranges from true-life graphic perversion to volatile social criticism. Doug is vulgar, opinionated, brutally honest and shockingly uninhibited and is certainly not for everybody.
He started his career in Las Vegas doing jack-off jokes for free drinks. Not much has changed, save for the mullet.Doug has built a wide-ranging television resume of dubious achievement. He hosted The Man Show on Comedy Central as well as the ubiquitous pseudo-porn for the sexually crippled, “Girls Gone Wild”, both solely and shamelessly for financial gain. He has appeared on “The Howard Stern Show”, “Comedy Central Presents”, “Premium Blend”, NBC’s “Late Friday”, “Spy TV” BBC’s “Floor Show Live” while on ecstasy and wrote, produced and starred in Fox’s “Invasion of the Hidden Cameras” and has even popped up on “Fox News with Greta Van Sustern” and “The Jerry Springer Show”. In 2010, he was the Voice of America on the BBC’s “Charlie Brooker’s Newswipe”.None of it compares to seeing him live; Doug is a two-time winner of Time Out New York’s “Best Comedy Performance of the Year”.
Alright. There you have it! Now scroll down, click on one of the “share” options, and spread the word! You can also tweet me (@hey_stacey_kay) about any of this using the hashtag #bingcomedy
